Dental Hygienist Services in Lichfield
At Asquith House Dental, we care deeply about your teeth and gums. For this reason, regular hygiene appointments play a key role in your long-term oral health.
What Is Gum Disease?
Gum disease causes inflammation in your gums. Plaque and calculus build up on teeth over time. Calculus is hardened plaque that brushing cannot remove. If left untreated, it spreads below the gum line. Pockets form between teeth and gums. Gums may recede, and teeth can become loose. Eventually, you may lose teeth entirely. This condition is called periodontitis.
Who Gets Gum Disease?
Anyone can develop gum disease. However, factors such as smoking, certain medications, or poor brushing habits increase the risk. Furthermore, aggressive brushing can damage gums too. Your hygienist will discuss all these issues with you. They will explain exactly what affects your oral health and how to improve it.
What Your Hygienist Does For You
Your hygienist treats gum disease gently and effectively. They use ultrasonic tools to remove calculus. Then they polish your teeth to a smooth finish. They may also apply medication to your gums. Treatment may use a mild anaesthetic for comfort.
Your hygienist will:
– Show you correct flossing techniques
– Demonstrate the best brushing methods
– Explain how to clean between teeth
– Give you simple dietary advice
They will help you prevent:
– Bad breath
– Red or swollen gums
– Bleeding gums
– Pain when chewing
– Loose teeth
– Sensitivity
– Receding gums
Why See A Hygienist Regularly?
Many people think only the dentist cleans teeth thoroughly. In fact, your hygienist spends 20 to 30 minutes focused entirely on your gums and teeth. That is far more time than a standard check-up allows. Research shows these visits lower your risk of serious long-term health conditions. Gum disease links to heart health, diabetes, and other concerns. So, regular hygiene visits protect your whole body, not just your smile.
How Often Should You Visit?
Your hygienist will recommend how often you should come back. It depends on how much gum disease you have. Some people need visits every three months. Others do well with six-month or annual appointments. We will tailor a plan just for you.
If You Have Advanced Gum Disease
In more serious cases, deeper cleaning or gum treatment may be needed. Your dentist or specialist will carry out this care. Even then, regular hygiene appointments remain essential to keep things stable.
Cost And Comfort
A standard 20–30 minute hygiene appointment costs just £89. We use modern ultrasonic technology. It is gentle, fast, and effective. If you feel nervous, simply ask. We can apply a numbing cream to your gums so you feel nothing at all.
