Emergency Dentist in Lichfield — Same-Day Appointments Available
Common Dental Emergencies We Treat
We’re here to help with all urgent dental concerns. You should seek help if you have severe toothache that won’t go away. This includes broken, chipped, or knocked-out teeth from injury. It also covers swelling, infection, and facial pain that keeps getting worse. Lost fillings or loose crowns are also reasons to call us. Damaged dentures and bleeding gums are things we can help with too. If you’re unsure whether your situation is an emergency, just call us. We’re happy to advise.
Same-Day Emergency Appointments
We reserve dedicated slots every single day for urgent cases. Call us as early as you can. We always prioritise emergencies above routine work. This means you can often be seen the very same day you call. Many patients tell us finding a same-day dentist elsewhere is difficult. That’s the difference at Asquith House Dental. We’re Staffordshire’s largest dental practice. We have over 1,250 Google reviews. We can help you quickly. Patients travel from Tamworth, Sutton Coldfield, Rugeley, Cannock, Burton, Stafford, Walsall, Brownhills, Aldridge, and Birmingham. Help is just a phone call away.
Out-of-Hours and Weekend Availability
We know emergencies often happen when other practices are closed. Dental pain does not follow a 9-to-5 schedule. That’s why neither do we. We offer late evening appointments during the week. We are also open on weekends. Whether it strikes at night or on a Sunday, we are here to help. You don’t have to suffer through the night or wait days for care. We work closely with NHS 111 and local hospitals. We provide urgent care when they need it.
NHS and Private Emergency Care
Emergency care is available to both NHS and private patients. You don’t need to be registered with us to get emergency help. If you’re in pain, we will see you. Our clinic is calm and comfortable. We understand how stressful dental pain can be. You will be treated with kindness and respect. We’ll explain exactly what’s happening. We’ll tell you what needs to be done and what it will cost. No surprises — just honest, compassionate care.
Bleeding or Injury to Gums
Cuts or persistent bleeding in your mouth should be assessed. Apply firm, gentle pressure with a clean cloth for 10 to 15 minutes. Don’t lift it to check too soon. Avoid rinsing or spitting vigorously for 24 hours. This can disturb the clotting process. If bleeding continues, give us a call straight away. We’re here to help.
Damaged Dentures
Broken or ill-fitting dentures can irritate your gums. They can make eating difficult too. Don’t try to repair them yourself. Household adhesives can be toxic and cause further damage. Bring them to us instead. We can often repair or adjust them the same day. You won’t be left without your teeth for long.
If you’re unsure, it’s always better to call us. Our team will ask a few simple questions. We’ll guide you on what to do next. We’d much rather you call and ask than suffer unnecessarily.
What Should You Do While Waiting?
Getting to us quickly is important. But here’s what you can do right now to stay comfortable.
Managing Pain Safely
Take paracetamol or ibuprofen as directed on the packet. Follow the dosage instructions carefully. Do not place aspirin directly on the tooth or gums. This can cause a painful burn. If you take other medications, check with a pharmacist first.
Keep the Area Clean
Rinse gently with warm salt water. Use about half a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water. Swish it around and spit it out. Don’t swallow it. This helps wash away food and bacteria. It soothes inflamed gums too. Be gentle — don’t swish vigorously. You can do this a few times each day, especially after eating.
If You’ve Broken a Tooth
Collect any broken pieces you can find. Wrap them in a little damp tissue. Bring them with you. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth. Keep the area clean with gentle rinses. If the edge feels sharp, you can cover it temporarily with a little sugar-free chewing wax. Be careful not to swallow it.
If a Tooth Has Been Knocked Out
Time is critical. Hold the tooth by the white crown part — not the root. Rinse it gently with water if it’s dirty. Don’t scrub it. Try to place it back in the socket if you can do so gently. Bite down softly on a clean cloth to hold it in place. If you can’t put it back, keep it moist. Place it in a cup of milk or tuck it gently inside your cheek. Don’t wrap it in dry tissue. Get to us quickly — within 30 minutes gives the best chance of saving it.
What NOT to Do
Don’t put heat on your face if you see swelling. Heat can spread infection. Use a cold compress instead. Wrap an ice pack in a towel. Hold it against the outside of your cheek for 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off. Don’t skip meals. Eat soft, cool foods like soup or yoghurt. Avoid anything hot, spicy, or hard. And please — don’t ignore the problem. Dental issues almost never fix themselves. They almost always get worse over time.
Don’t Delay — Call Us Now
Dental problems rarely go away on their own. They almost always get worse the longer you wait. What starts as mild discomfort can become severe pain. It can also become more costly to treat. Don’t wait until it becomes an emergency. But if it already is one — we’re here.
