Ten tips to help you take care of your smile

It’s important to take care of your teeth and your smile. If you look after your teeth properly, they can last you a lifetime. In contrast, a filling, even when done well, only lasts for around ten years. So, in this post, we’ll give ten tips to help you take care of your smile.

1. Brush twice a day

Dentists recommend that you brush your teeth twice a day – once at night and once at another time of the day, such as the morning.

1. Use a soft toothbrush

Hard toothbrushes aren’t the best for cleaning your teeth. A soft bristled toothbrush with a very soft circular motion will actually clean your teeth better. Soft toothbrushes are also safer because they’re less abrasive for your teeth and gums.

3. Find out how good you are at brushing

You can find out how good (or bad) you are at brushing by buying some plaque disclosing tablets. They’re available at most chemists and dental clinics. They will stain the plaque on your teeth and let you see where you aren’t brushing properly.

Don’t be too forceful when you floss as you could damage your teeth. The best way to floss is to gently put the floss between the teeth and slowly move up and down along the tooth surface.

5. Don’t brush after eating acidic foods

Make sure to go the dentist twice a year for checkups. You might think it’s not necessary to go this often, but actually it’s the best way to catch problems early before they worse. This means you will need fewer invasive treatment in the long run.

8. Use a fluoride mouthwash

Mouthwashes can be a good additional measure to keep your mouth clean. If you do want to use a mouthwash, then look for one that contains fluoride, as the fluoride will give you extra protection against plaque.

9. Don’t use mouthwash immediately after brushing

When it comes to using mouthwash, most people brush their teeth first and then use the mouthwash straight afterwards. Instead, it’s best to use the mouthwash at a different time of day to when you brush your teeth.

10. Eat sugar less often

Everyone knows that sugar causes plaque and that we should limit the amount of sugar we eat. But did you know that how often you eat sugar could matter more than how much sugar you eat? If you eat sugar constantly throughout the day, it’s much
